Three things that do not flex

If any one is a no, this job is not for you
  1. You can lift 75 lb repeatedly, all day. Couches, fridges, hot tubs, wet carpet. Not once — for eight hours.
  2. You have reliable transport to the Everett yard for a 7am start. The truck leaves at 7. A bus that gets you there at 7:20 is a no.
  3. You can work at least three days a week. Saturday is the busiest day.
These three are checked automatically and a no on any of them ends the application right there. Nobody reads anything else into it, and you get told which one it was.
The job, honestly

What the day is

You meet at the yard at 6:45. The truck rolls at 7. You do three to five jobs in a day: garages, storage units, apartment turnovers, construction debris, the occasional estate. You carry it out, load it on the trailer, and run it to the transfer station. You are on your feet the whole shift.

It rains here eight months of the year and the work does not stop for it. Some jobs are filthy. Some customers are having a bad week and take it out on whoever shows up. You will be sore for the first two weeks and then you will not be.

It is also straightforward work with a clear end to every job, you are outside, and nobody is standing over you once you know what you are doing.

No sit-down interview. If your application clears, you work a morning with the crew and get paid for it whatever happens after. That is the fastest honest way for both sides to find out. Raises come off the scorecard — jobs run, on-time arrival, callbacks — and the numbers are the same ones you can see.
